Milam County Railroad Museum Support Group
Railroad Museum Association Organizing...
During the last five months of 2024, Milam County leaders have been organizing the Railroad Museum Association. The purpose of the association is to honor the vision, talents, over 35 years of dedication, and contributions of John and Frances Johnson in their creation of the Old Town Cameron 900 square foot diorama and the establishment of the Milam County Railroad Museum.
Association founders drafted By-Laws, elected temporary officers and began the application process for 501c3 status. This is just the beginning. The Association is seeking Milam County citizens who will help enhance the status and appreciation of our valuable railroad history. The museum tells the railroads' influence in the growth of many Milam County communities. Within the massive town model of Old Town Cameron lies the cultural, economic and social history of Cameron and Milam County in the 1940’s era.
The Association is seeking membership of citizens from throughout Milam County. The goals are far reaching and include providing learning opportunities for people of all ages by creating historical opportunities and events related to railroads in Milam County. All association goals also support tourism to our area. Association membership fees are $35, paid yearly.
Visitors from all over the State of Texas and the United States visit the museum. In 2024 the museum registered over 3000 visitors, bringing numerous tourism opportunities and benefits to Milam County and its businesses. The museum has been featured in newspaper articles from around the state and, most recently, on “The Texas Bucket List”. The museum has been approached by three national railroad magazine publications for articles for 2025. Old Town Cameron is scheduled to be on important railroad model tours with the Austin and Temple Train Shows in 2025. In April, the museum will hold the first Cameron Model Railroad Train show and Swap meet at “The Venue”. This single event could draw over 500 visitors in one day.
The association will hold the first “Annual” meeting on January 14 at 6:30pm at the Milam County Railroad Museum, 110 West 1st Street, Cameron. We hope to have our friends desiring to enhance our county's economic opportunities and to support the historic Milam County Railroad Museum join us for this exciting opportunity to build on the work of John and Frances Johnson and the volunteers of our wonderful museum. Please contact Jamie Larson at [email protected] to RSVP for the meeting on January 14th. If you are unable to attend, but are interested in joining, you may mail your $35 to:
